Homebuyer Readiness Program Worth It

January 05, 2011

With the help of Neighborhood Housing, Inc., Knoxville individuals and families are finally realizing their goals of homeownership. Not only does homeownership improve communities, but it gives owners, like John Newton, a sense of pride and stability in their homes and neighborhoods. John first called Neighborhood Housing in early 2009 when he saw a NHI home he was interested in, but Director Steve Pearson recommended waiting until Katie Moore joined the team with the Homebuyer Readiness Program. Steve was certain she could guide John in the right direction. “It was definitely worth the wait,” John said. While he owned a home many years ago, John said the Homebuyer Readiness Program taught him so much about managing his finances and how to make homeownership a reality once again. He did just that in October 2010. A retired carpenter, John loves his new home, his neighborhood, and the safety and security his grandchildren enjoy when they visit him. “The NHI program is like chocolate cake and ice cream,” John says. “It’s about as good as it gets.”
