ABSTINENCE INITIATIVE

MEETING THE EPIDEMIC OF STD'S AND TEEN PREGNANCY

Sexual activity among teens has reached epidemic proportions, along with the resulting STDs and teen pregnancies, emotional damage and other long term effects. Sexual abstinence is the best choice. This message is delivered to middle and high school students with high-energy programs that weave inspiration with information. It is presented to students by students to make the message real.

The facts.
3 million teenagers nationally are infected with STDs.
8,000 teens in the US will become infected every day.
1 out of every 4 sexually active teens is living with an STD.
Over 80% of teens with STDs show no symptoms and never get medical attention.
There are at least 25 sexually transmitted diseases that sexually active youth are exposed to.

There are 3 programs that make up the KLF Abstinence Initiative

1. School Assembly Program
Presented in public and private schools through a dynamic multi-media presentation, along with other materials, students are challenged to consider their choices with regard to the opposite sex, and learn the facts about the risks of not remaining abstinent. This program is a community-based program with no religious activities associated. It is funded through a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Silver Ring Thing

2. Silver Ring Thing
Following a dynamic, faith-based multi-media presentation, students participating in the Silver Ring Thing are challenged to make the right choice, pledge to remain abstinent until marriage and to wear the Silver Ring as a symbol of their commitment. It is a national movement and a local success. This program is faith-based and contains a faith message. It is funded privately and no federal grants are used for any part of the program.

The Crew

3. The CREW
Students in 6th-12th grades help deliver the message of sexual abstinence by joining the Crew, our performance team. They deliver the message to their peers in a high-energy stage show. They attend bi-monthly meetings for training, and quarterly Saturdays for fun. A summer camp is part of the deal as well. This program is a community based program funded through a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services. No religious activities are paid for by these funds.

THE CREW Information:

THE CREW is a group of students dedicated to influencing their peers to make good choices, particularly about sex.

We do this by providing training to put on high-tech, high-energy shows for fellow teenagers about sex.

We meet twice a month to discuss sex and other issues facing today’s teens.

Forget everything you know about teen groups. This group is different. For one thing our main goal is to inform and equip others with the truth about sex in today’s culture. Also, there is a commitment. That’s right, a commitment. You must make/have made a commitment to remain abstinent until marriage. There is also a time commitment. If you have a desire to positively impact the sex-saturated world around us and counter the culture’s unhealthy view of sex and relationships please click here!
