Silver Ring Thing 7-19-06

July 19, 2006

On Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, the Silver Ring Thing (SRT) is back to help kick off the beginning of school!  The Knoxville Leadership Foundation along with it’s partner Hope Resource Center combine forces to bring this high-energy event that promotes sexual abstinence.  On-site registrations begin at 5:00 p.m. and the doors open at 6:00 p.m.  A special Parent’s Seminar goes from 6:00 until 6:45 p.m., and then parents are able to enjoy the remainder of the SRT production.

SRT has gained national and international recognition as one of the fastest growing teen abstinence programs today.  Widely known for its high-tech presentation style, it incorporates music, laser lights, humor with a faith-based message.  The SRT show is produced in a MTV style format that moves the abstinence message out of the school assembly hall and into a “club style” atmosphere that appeals to the 21st century teenager.  In the past three years over 7,000 students have attended the event with 4,500 students making the pledge for abstinence.

Through SRT, teens understand that abstinence until marriage is the way to avoid contracting a sexually transmitted disease, but it is also the way to enjoy a richer and more blessed marital life.  During the program, youth make a commitment to stay sexually pure until marriage and put on a silver ring as a sign of that promise.  Once the ring is put on, it seals the commitment of the young person to a life of sexual purity until marriage and also serves as a witness that the wearer has joined the movement for sexual abstinence.
