Silver Ring Thing
Abstinence…The True Meaning of Love

Knoxville, TN –  Every day in America 2,000 teenagers get pregnant and 8,000 teenagers contract a STD.  On Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, the Silver Ring Thing (SRT) is back to share with teens what true love really means!  The Knoxville Leadership Foundation, along with it’s partner JustWait, combine forces to bring this high-energy event that promotes sexual abstinence.  On-site registrations begin at 5:00 p.m. and the doors open at 6:00 p.m.  A special Parent’s Seminar goes from 6:00 until 6:30 p.m., and then parents are able to enjoy the remainder of the SRT production.

SRT has gained national and international recognition as one of the fastest growing teen abstinence programs today.  Widely known for its high-tech presentation style, it incorporates music, laser lights and humor with a faith-based message.  The SRT show is produced in a MTV style format that moves the abstinence message out of the school assembly hall and into a “club style” atmosphere that appeals to the 21st century teenager.  In the past three years, over 10,000 students have attended the event with 65% of those students making the pledge for abstinence until marriage.

Through SRT, teens understand that abstinence until marriage is the most effective way to avoid contracting a sexually transmitted disease.  During the program, youth make a commitment to stay sexually pure until marriage and put on a silver ring as a sign of that promise.  Once the ring is put on, it seals the commitment of the young person to a life of sexual purity until marriage and also serves as a witness that the wearer has joined the movement for sexual abstinence.

KLF is a faith-based organization that believes our city can be transformed through reconciliation. Reconciliation occurs when people from different communities and walks of life roll up their sleeves, work side-by-side and really begin to understand and appreciate each other. This is what our programs do: they bring people together to work on targeted problems in our city that put people at serious risk. Our programs are effectively and efficiently staffed and managed. All folks have to do is plug in, join in and watch transformation happen.
