Operation Backyard Summer Camps Underway

June 19, 2007

Local church youth groups from around the area are coming together to do free home repairs for some of Knoxville’s neediest.  These students are going to paint and roof houses, build handicap access ramps and many other minor projects around Knoxville’s inner city.  Our hope is that these middle and high school students learn more about their neighbors and develop a service attitude that will continue into adulthood.

Week one of Operation Backyard begins Sunday, June 17th and continues until Friday, June 22nd.  Listed are several of the addresses where work will be taking place.  As the sights may change from day to day, please call Dan Myers at (865) 385-3771 to schedule a time to come interview either workers or homeowners.

There are two additional weeks of Operation Backyard this summer:  June 24-29 and July 8-13.  The students stay at Central United Methodist Church (located near Knoxville’s Old City) while they are serving.  Their days are spent repairing homes in the inner-city and their nights are spent with dynamic inner-city worship leader and speakers, small group meetings and getting to know other students from our area.
